Hopping Posts Top-10 Finish for Chargers at Region IV Preview

Freshman Cole Hopping (Vermont, Ill./VIT) posted a top-10 finish and the Carl Sandburg College men’s golf team finished fourth in the Region IV Preview on Friday at PrairieView.
Hopping’s 7-over-par 79 tied him with DuPage’s Matt McColaugh, but McColaugh won a playoff for eighth place.
The Chargers shot 333 as a team, finishing two shots ahead of fifth-place Sauk Valley in the 12-team event.
Sophomore Grant Otting (Taylor Ridge, Ill./Rockridge) finished with an 81, sophomore Trace White (Mount Pleasant, Iowa/Mount Pleasant) carded an 84 and Calvin Peterson (Williamsfield, Ill./Williamsfield) rounded out Sandburg’s score with an 89.
Bryant & Stratton’s Mason Polivka took medalist honors after defeating Illinois Valley’s Ian Roach on the second playoff hole.
Illinois Valley won the tournament with a 314, edging Bryant & Stratton by one stroke. Black Hawk shot 320 to finish third.
